The Netherlands is punching above its weight in leather goods. Amsterdam's cluster of Shopify-first brands and Rotterdam's role as Europe's largest port make it a natural entry point — not just for Dutch clients but for any EU brand that wants to clear customs once and distribute onwards.
Several of our German, Belgian and Scandinavian clients import into Rotterdam instead of their own national ports because the customs clearance is faster and the road network out of Rotterdam covers most of the EU within twenty-four hours. Dutch VAT can be deferred with an Article 23 licence — your forwarder or fiscal representative handles this. It's why the Port of Rotterdam sees so much transit cargo.

Can I clear customs in Rotterdam and redistribute across the EU?
Yes. This is one of Rotterdam's advantages. With an Article 23 licence you defer Dutch VAT, and once goods are in free circulation you can move them anywhere in the EU without further customs formality. Many of our German and Belgian clients import this way.
